Yum, with autumn just around the corner I like to slowly soak up the last few weeks of summer and welcome my favourite season of the year. These candied citrus slices are always a delicious treat and the perfect way to really get into that renewed optimism and a warm sentimental feeling. Let’s get into it!
Ingredients:
- 4-5 oranges
- 300ml of water
- 550g of plain sugar
- 10g of vanilla sugar
Method:
1. Cut the oranges into circles and place them in a bowl of hot water (you can use boiled kettle water) for 2-3 minutes to avoid the bitterness.
2. Drain the orange slices and dry them using the paper towel.
3. Put the orange slices into the pot.
4. In another pot combine the sugar, vanilla sugar and water. Gently heat this mixture until the sugar is dissolved. Pour this liquid into the pot with the orange slices.
5. Cook the oranges for 1.5 - 2 hours on a low heat, ensuring that you check the pot from time to time. If needed, add some water.
5. Drain the orange slices and let them dry a bit.
6. Place them on grease proof paper and pop them into the oven for 20-25 minutes at 90C.
7. Let them cool completely and enjoy!
